My Story
I’m Krishnamoorthy Muthaly, a journalist who never stops asking “Why?”. My journey began far from newsrooms — as a junior clerk at Tenaga Nasional (then NEB) from 1969 to 1979. Every sen I saved went toward a dream: studying journalism in the United States. That dream took shape at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where I didn’t just learn — I led. In 1982, I organised a historic meeting between student leaders and former President Jimmy Carter — a first for the university.
Since then, I’ve spent over two decades with The Straits Times and The Star, going undercover as a beggar, blind man, and even a Member of Parliament to uncover truths hidden beneath the surface. I’ve reported for CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera, Time, The Guardian, and many more, always driven by a single principle: truth matters.
Personal Life
Behind the journalist is a simple man who believes in humility, honesty, and humanity. At 77, when many choose retirement, I choose relevance — by teaching, mentoring, and coaching the next generation. As an Adjunct Professor, I’ve taught at institutions like Murdoch, Monash Malaysia, HELP University, UTAR, Xiamen International University, and UNITAR.
